Finding Joy and Healing Beyond Therapy in Baltimore

Updated: Nov 5

My Favorite Local Spots: Summer 2025 Edition

When people search for “therapy in Baltimore,” they often seek ways to feel grounded, connected, and supported. However, therapy doesn’t only happen in an office. The places we spend our time can significantly impact our well-being. Part of healing is discovering environments that bring us comfort, spark joy, or help us slow down.

As both a therapist and a Baltimore local, I want to share some of my favorite spots in the city. These are the places I return to repeatedly when I need to reset, connect with the community, or simply treat myself.

There’s nothing quite like wandering through a cozy bookstore. Snug Books in Hamilton has become one of my favorites. It’s a place where you can find unexpected gems, curl up with something new, and feel right at home. Browsing books can be grounding. It reminds us that we don’t always have to “do” anything to care for ourselves.

🫖 Arcola

If you know me, you know I love spaces that invite you to slow down. Arcola, with its beautiful teas and thoughtful atmosphere, does exactly that. It’s not just a tea shop; it’s a reminder to pause, breathe, and enjoy something simple. For many of my clients (and myself!), creating small rituals like making tea can become part of their therapy journey. It serves as an anchor amid a stressful day.

Weber’s Farm is a Baltimore staple, and I can’t get enough of it in the summer. Their pick-your-own options (shoutout to the peaches, blackberries, and flowers currently in season!) are a grounding way to reconnect with nature. Being surrounded by rows of fruit trees and blossoms is deeply regulating. And their peach spritz? Honestly, I’m still dreaming about it.

Since I’m dairy-free this summer (my baby has reflux), I’ve been leaning into Baltimore’s vegan spots. Harmony Bakery is one of my favorites. Their gluten-free, vegan baked goods are delicious, but what makes it special is the fun and playful atmosphere. It’s a go-to reminder for me (and my clients) that healing doesn’t always have to be heavy. Sometimes, it’s as simple as a bright, welcoming space and a treat you can enjoy without worry.

Why These Places Matter in Therapy (and Life)

You don’t have to be “in session” to benefit from therapy principles. As a trauma therapist in Baltimore, I often encourage clients to explore safe, soothing, or joyful places in their everyday lives. Healing isn’t only about processing the hard stuff. It’s about building moments of regulation, connection, and pleasure.

If you’re looking for therapy in Baltimore, remember that your healing journey can include both the work we do in the therapy room and the life you create outside of it. These places are part of mine.

How Your Surroundings Support Your Healing Journey During Therapy in Baltimore

The environments we choose to spend time in can greatly influence our mental health. Each of the places I’ve mentioned offers a unique atmosphere that promotes relaxation and joy.

Creating Rituals

Creating rituals around visiting these spots can enhance their therapeutic effects. For example, making a weekly trip to Snug Books can become a cherished routine. It allows you to unwind and escape into the world of literature. Similarly, visiting Arcola for a cup of tea can serve as a calming ritual to start or end your day.

Connecting with Nature

Spending time in nature is another powerful way to support your mental health. Weber’s Farm provides an opportunity to connect with the earth and enjoy the beauty of seasonal produce. Engaging with nature can be incredibly grounding and restorative.

Enjoying Nourishing Foods

Food plays a significant role in our well-being. Harmony Bakery offers delicious vegan treats that nourish both the body and soul. Eating mindfully and enjoying what we consume can enhance our overall sense of well-being.

Final Thoughts

Finding your favorite local spots can be a vital part of your healing journey. These places offer more than just a break from routine; they provide opportunities for connection, joy, and self-care.

If you’re seeking a trauma therapist in Baltimore who understands what it’s like to live, work, and find joy here, I’d love to help. Schedule an intro call and let’s discuss what support could look like for you.
